Through a Title III initiative, SI was implemented at Windward Community College in 2009 with a pilot for Hawaiian Studies 107. In Fall 2010, SI was scaled to historically difficult courses and offered in variety of disciplines. In Fall 2016, the SI program was institutionalized receive annual funding with an emphasis on college level courses. The SI program received certification by the International Center for Supplemental Instruction in August 2016.
About the SI staff Ashley-Michelle Tilton, Student Employee Coordinator, has been involved in the SI Program since 2012 as an SI Leader for Psychology and became an SE Mentor in Fall 2014. In July 2016, Ashley became the Student Employee Coordinator and the head of Supplemental Instruction (SI). Ashley obtained her AA in Liberal Arts from Windward Community College and her BA in Psychology from UH Manoa. Most recently, Ashley graduated from the UH Manoa-Myron B. Thompson School of Social Work with her MSW degree.
Jennifer Kaneakalau, Student Employee Mentor, has been involved in the SI Program since 2014 as an SI Leader for Botany and Psychology and became an SE Mentor in Fall 2018. Jenn obtained her BA in Psychology from UH Manoa and is currently a graduate student in the Social Work program at UH Manoa.
