Spring 2013 - Cohort
Here we have compiled data on the Spring 2013 SI Cohort (students who were in a class support by Supplemental Instruction in the Spring 2013 semester ). The data below tracks their UH system retention and cumulative GPA at their home institution. Students are separated into five categories: (1) Overall: the entire SI Cohort; (2) SI Attendees: students who attended one or more sessions in Spring 2013; (3) Non-Attendees: students who attended zero sessions in Spring 2013; (4) 5+ Sessions: students who attended five or more sessions in Spring 2013; and (5) 10+ Sessions: students who attended ten or more sessions in Spring 2013.
Retention here is defined as a student who was enrolled in a course supported by SI in the Spring 2013 semester and attempted any number of credits in the Spring 2014 or Spring 2015 semester at any UH campus(es). Eleven students were omitted due to lack of attendance data. Any students who graduated or transferred out of the system are counted as NOT retained.
The first graph below indicates that four semesters after the SI intervention, "SI Attendees" are retained in the UH system at a rate nearly 5% higher than "SI Non-Attendees," and the "10+ Sessions" group are retained at rate nearly 10% higher.
The second graph shows a positive trend between the number of sessions attended and cumulative home campus GPA.
